You were made to know God

So for the past few weeks i have been really digging into the book of proverbs for wisdom. No better place to find comfort than proverbs and psalms for me. A few great verses i underlined are

Proverbs 12:25 "Anxiety in a mans heart weighs him down, but a good work makes glad."

Proverbs 13:1 " A wise son hears his fathers instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke."

Proverbs 13:3 " Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin."

1 John 4:6 " We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. But this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error."

What do all these verses have in common? They all are trying to tell the reader to listen. Listen to your fathers instruction. Listen to God, hear more and talk less. 

One of my favorite pastors who i will be quoting alot in this blog is Charles Stanley. 

He says :

"Deep down, theres a place within each of us that is made for one thing-a relationship with God. No matter how hard we try to cover it up or fill it with something else, we will never be satisfied. Our hearts will remain restless until they find their home with God. That deep, hidden part of you is there, even if you haven't realized until now. 

But unfortunately, there's a problem. A barrier exists between God and humankind. Its called sin- a word that refers to all the ways we fall short of the glory of God and his design for humanity. When the first human beings rebelled against God, sin became a part of the human condition. It has been passed on like a hereditary disease from ancestor to ancestor all the way down the line to us. In the bible, Romans 3:23 says, "Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of Gods glorious standard." and in Romans 6:23, we learn "the wages of sin is death." In other words, all people need to be brought "back from the dead" spiritually. But there's nothing we can do to remove this barrier of death on our own. No amount of good deeds on our part can change our eternal status."

That's what some other religions say. If we are good. We are automatically "supposed to" go to heaven. If we do good in this life, if we are nice and kind and generous with our materials, god will give us life. But our God, Jesus Christ has a different story.
